Late last year an opportunity arose to hire the Albion Peace Hall at 102 Macdonald Street Windsor, underneath the Albion overpass, for those of you familiar with the area.  Some of you attend the BOGI (Brisbane Organic Growers Inc) events here.

Yes, it’s on the north side, but it’s near the railway station, and not that far from the ICB. If you’re traveling from the south on the M3, it’s only 20 minutes from Garden City.

What makes it such a good venue is that it has plenty of parking, a kitchen, a boardroom to conduct workshops and plenty of space for stallholders to show their wares. Note the kitchen can only be used to prepare snacks such as sausage sizzle and any proceeds must go to the organisation. Qld Food Health and Safety rules mean any shared food other than snacks must be prepared at home.

Unfortunately, they don’t accept BrisLETS units; we must pay them in $, so we ask for a gold coin donation from everybody attending.

TRADING THEMES: The idea is to organise Trading Days around particular themes, so we’ll be doing that in the future — not that it’s compulsory for you to trade your goods and services around the theme. You can bring anything along. Keep an eye on the monthly Events Update email in your email box for more details.

WORKSHOPS/PRESENTATIONS: Our new venue has a boardroom, accommodates 10–20 people, has a projector screen and is ideal for holding workshops. We’re seeking people to conduct presentations, and we are sourcing a projector.

ZONES: The hall size lets us divide the space into several zones. A TRADING ZONE, a CHILL ZONE for socialising, a SERVICES/SALON ZONE for traders offering a service, and a KIDS’ ZONE, so the children can be entertained while you trade and chat.

INTO THE FUTURE: As our membership grows and when demand warrants it, we’d like to expand and hold Community Trading Days in more regions around Brisbane. So let’s (pun intended) take the opportunity presented to us and make each Trading Day at the Peace Hall a showcase event that can be replicated all around Brisbane.

OTHER EVENTS: We’d also like to encourage other events in the suburbs — anything from talks to workshops to purely social events. Just contact the Events Team and we can arrange some publicity for the event.

TEAM MEMBERS: We need your help! Would you like to join the EVENTS TEAM? We can share the fun in organising the Community Trading Day and other such events.

We’re always looking for ideas to make our Trading Days interesting and fun, so contact us and get involved. It’s YOU who’ll make BrisLETS a success.
