BrisLETS May Trading Day – Coastal Connections

3rd Sunday 17 May • 1pm – 4pm Hosted at Wynnum Library 145 Florence Street, Wynnum QLD 4178 The world is changing — and more people than ever are looking for something real. Local connection. Like-minded neighbours. Families who support each other. BrisLETS has been...

This is how BrisLETS works!

BrisLETS has been running since 1988 — 38 years of neighbours helping neighbours without needing cash.

Instead of dollars, members trade using Units. You offer something you can do or share, earn Units, and spend them on what others offer. It doesn’t have to be a direct swap — you might mow someone’s lawn on Tuesday and get a massage on Friday from a completely different member. The community balances itself out.

Trading happens through the Community Exchange System (CES) at community-exchange.org, where you can log your trades, list your offers and wants, and see what others have available.

What do people trade?

All kinds of things — gardening, tutoring, baked goods, home repairs, lifts, sewing, music lessons, fresh produce, childcare, pet care. If you can do it or make it, someone probably needs it.

Monthly trading days bring the whole community together at venues around Brisbane. Local groups (called Local Action Groups) also meet closer to home.

Joining is simple. A one-off $20 fee, one offer listed, and you’re in. New members are welcome to come along to a trading day first to see how it all works.

BrisLETS Vision Statement

The BrisLETS Community Exchange Incorporated Association  facilitates increasing members’ quality of life and material circumstances, through trading their life experience, goods, and services, to meet other members’ needs.

We aim to create a safe, inclusive, and diverse community of individuals, businesses, and groups, using the Australian Community Exchange Server, and units, as an alternative currency to dollars.

PRINCIPLES

  • Everyone of all abilities, in all seasons of life, can contribute to society, using LETS.
  • Community is more important than commerce.
  • BrisLETS builds community by fostering shared values and processes.
  • LETS units enable people to trade goods and services for mutual benefit, without the artificial constraints of national currencies.
